Amazon.com Product Description

The incredible sonic flexibility and quality of the original POD® is now super-charged. Get PODXT and you'll have Line 6's newest generation amp and cab models as found in our flagship Vetta amplifier. Combine that with over 60 classic stompbox and effect models, including hand-picked selections from our award-winning stompbox modeler series. How about a lumpy vibe in to a high-powered "treadplate" head with a 1x8 speaker cab miked off-axis and dressed up with stereo delays? You're only scratching the surface.

But wait — there's more! PODXT has our newest-generation A.I.R. II cabinet/microphone modeling which allows you to choose from 4 different classic mic models and even adjust how much of the room sound you hear! There's even a dedicated studio-quality compressor. Add a bit of verb (spring, plate, hall or room) and now you're ready to track.

PODXT even has a USB digital in/out for direct digital computer recording. And its flash-based memory means easy upgrades to keep your PODXT on the cutting edge.

With 128 user/factory presets, many based on some of the most popular guitar songs ever recorded, you'll have instant access to an unbelievable collection of classic guitar rigs. Chromatic Tuner While not as glamorous as all those nifty effects, every guitar player who’s come within two feet of a tremolo can’t live without a tuner. PODXT’s built-in Chromatic Tuner offers precision tuning at the touch of a button. Audio Mute or Bypass options with an adjustable tuning reference are featured as well as hands-free operation when used with the FBV series foot controllers.

  • Precision Chromatic Tuning
  • Audio Mute
  • Bypass
  • Hands-free Operation (with optional FBV-series foot controllers Check them out here!)

Ins and Outs POD® XT is equipped to handle today’s guitar recording needs. Our 24-bit converters and 32-bit floating point processing create a killer tone, delivered through +4dBu balanced or -10dBV unbalanced 1/4 inch connectors. Or go digital with PODXT’s USB digital audio in and out for the most incredible tone available. MIDI lets you automate every move and our optional FBV generation foot controllers let you do it all with your feet. PODXT also comes with a high-power headphone output for silent jamming.

Creating Your Perfect Tone

While the presets, many of which are song based, are a great place to start looking for a great tone, sometimes you just want to roll your own. Critical tone controls are available as knobs on the main panel, but POD® XT also offers an intuitive, incredibly easy to use screen display for deep patch editing, where any tone shaping parameter is easily accessed and changed to generate your own sonic character.

Above the PODXT's display you'll find 5 effect on/off buttons where you can instantaneously defeat or enable stompboxes or rack-type effects. Double pressing each button allows you to edit the effects settings. Single pressing seamlessly switches the effect on or off.

Comp (Gate) This button accesses our model of a highly sought-after LA-2A® COMPRESSOR, as well as a lightning-fast NOISE GATE. You'll find a fully-adjustable threshold for each, as well as a completely variable decay time for the gate.

Stomp This is where PODXT's STOMPBOXES and vintage distortion models live. There are 10 classic stompboxes ranging from light overdrives, heavy distortions, and psychedelic 60's fuzzes. Whichever one you choose, you'll have complete control over the Drive, Gain and Tone knobs.

Mod PODXT comes with all the classic flavors of MODULATION like Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Rotary and Vibe. Chorus like Andy, flange like Eddie, vibe like Jimi... it's all there.

Delay PODXT has faithful models of vintage tape echoes to modern marvels like tap-tempo stereo ping-pongs. You can adjust the delay time in milliseconds or by any note value you choose. Just like the original POD™, you can easily TAP in a song's tempo, and now you also have tap tempo control over modulation speeds. Imagine changing the speed of your tremolo along with your delay time right from the front panel - or via your foot using the optional FBV Shortboard.

Cab/AIR To top it off you can mix and match speaker cabinets, microphones (and even mic placement!) in the CABINET section. PODXT's next generation speaker cabinet models include all the historic speaker types you've come to know and love. You'll swear you're hearing the paint rattle off the studio walls thanks to Line 6's all new A.I.R. II technology.

Reverb PODXT gives you a full-time reverb knob just like your old standby. But in addition to the authentic spring tanks, you now have everything from vintage Plate reverbs to cavernous Halls.

Buuk Reader Said: Outstanding when used properly ( Nov. 17th 2009 )
Make no mistake - this is not an effects board. It is a full-up amplifier modeling processor. You must use it properly to take full advantage of what it offers. I have used the PodXT into the front end of a guitar amp, into the line-in of a keyboard amp, and into the power-amp in of another amp. In none of these cases did it sound that good. Tinny and electronic comes to mind. Once I plugged it into a flat-response full-range monitor, however, it came alive. Absolutely gorgeous sounds cab be extracted from this thing if you use it in this fashion. FWIW, I use a KRK Rokit 5G2, which is a little ~20W powered monitor. I have also found that high end computer speakers work quite well (think Z-5500's). In this case, the woofer actually makes a different with the low end. The built-in patches are not that great, but there are many available online which can be downloaded for free. All in all I am completely happy. If there is a better way to get a Soldano SLO-100 w/4x12 cabinet sound for under $300, I would really love to know what it is.
Esther R. De Bermudez Said: Not a Single regret! ( Jul. 9th 2008 )
I've had this little kindey-shaped pod for a while now, and all i can say is that, the Modeling and AIR systems really do their job. I've spent lots of hours in studios playing with some great valve amp heads and man, this pod is for sure if not the best, one of the best amp simulators around for just about us $300. IMAO, it lacks a LITTLE bit of Depth [as the majority of digital simulators/pedals]..but just a little, this can be solved later on your Pc. Believe me, this little fella is compact, robust and easy to use! I'd chose the PODxt over my little 45W Marshall/Mic setup since i can't get the right tone out of it. Forget about moving the amp and that bunch of cables, placing the mic, worrying about your room acoustics etc...if you need a neat thing, this is it. Of course, i recommend this POD to those who make their own music, Demos, or whatever, its just great. But i wouldn't risk on taking it to a professional studio and record your band's new Album with it. I'd rely on the big Amp and mic setup. The USB connection is really fast (not on a Hub, place it in a single dedicated connector), the sound is truly dynamic when recorded on your Pc, works as a DI box and the headphone output delivers great tone. Maybe i'll use the Audio L/R outputs later, usb is just fine. I use it every day, and haven't had a single regret. The only reason to give it those 4 stars, is just because you'll need the FBV swithfoot board to gig live. So, yeah..
S. R. Said: 4.5 stars ( Nov. 4th 2006 )
I was skeptical since I have owned a few digital processors of yore and have always fell right back to my good ol' valve amp and a couple choice pedals . However, I was planning on using this device for desktop recording purposes. The unit delivers in this respect. working well with Riffworks and Fruity Loops this bad boy gets the job done. Sound is incredible and the soundscape is almost limitless. The add-on programs I needed are indeed a must but kind of costly. For live purposes the unit also delivers very well, but is very hard to use smoothly without the very costly foot-pedal board of which I will purchase, even tho it cost about 300 clams, the unit requires it for my live purposes, but it will be worth it.....almost. The programming ability make this unit most valuable, I can program my personal set ups and get to them with a quick turn of the dial....soon a quick touch with the foot. Quality is also at work here folks. The unit is built solid, there's some plastic, but it's still roadworthy, just handle with care. I don't wish to imply this thing is too fragile, it's built tough, but it is fragile electronics and the jacks could be damaged without normal, basic care. You can't treat this thing with ignorance, basic common sense preventative care will make it last. Although if you use it to put bread on the table you'll always need a backup plan. At 300-bucks it's not for the meek or mildly interested, but for my purposes at the moment this thing stays in the studio where really shines. IMO nothing, at this price point, comes close to delivering the quality sounds as promised by sooo many didgital processors these days.
Steve Bartek Said: If You Use Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger, Do Not Buy A PODxt ( Oct. 14th 2005 )
No matter what any other reviewer tells you, if you use Mac OSX Tiger 10.4, you will not be able to utilize the Line 6 Edit software that comes with the PODxt. As of 10/14/05, Line 6 has not updated Line 6 Edit software for use with Mac OSX 10.4. Why is this such a big deal? Because Line 6 Edit software enables you to edit a PODxt's settings from your computer easily. Without Line 6 Edit software, the PODxt is practically impossible to edit. Without the ability to to edit the PODxt easily, the unit is only worth half as much. Line 6 is not very Mac friendly, so don't expect the software to be updated anytime soon. If you're serious about purchasing a PODxt, check the Line 6 website to make sure the unit AND software are compatible with the operating system you are using. This information is taken directly from Line 6's website: "Is Line 6 Edit for Mac or a Windows PC? ...We have not yet evaluated Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and can not yet provide information on compatibility." In other words, IT DOESN'T WORK WITH MAC OSX TIGER 10.4!
Robert Hedrick Said: Everything and More ( Oct. 5th 2005 )
I literally got 'the shakes' when I played my first riff with the PODxt. The sound is so incredible, you really won't believe what you're hearing. If you've listened to a good Bose© system, and how you were blown away by the sound; it's the same feeling. I'd consider myself a 'Tech Guru' along with 'Musician', and honestly I was a bit overwhelmed when I began setting up and using the PODxt, but I got the hang of it pretty quick. If you've ever used a big Amp with a bunch of effects and buttons, it's sort of like that. Of of the best features I found on the PODxt is the 'Line 6 Edit' software ([...]), and Mac (all OS X including Tiger) compatible. I can edit tones quickly and easily, it's all so seamless, you'll be amazed. The other amazing feature is the website that links with Line 6 Edit; I can go to the site, and type the name of a song I'm going to play, and instantly a new tone (designed perfectly for that song) is in the editor, ready to be transferred to my PODxt. This is without a doubt the best 'Bang For Your Buck' deal around - if you're into Guitar and making great music, the PODxt if for you. ~Rob Hedrick
